Approved Tool Register
Child safety, privacy and technology controls for the Future AI Innovators Program.
Core rule
If a tool is not listed in this register, it is not used with children.
This register is approved at version 1.3, effective 2 October 2026. Zoom, the GIofAI LMS and Zoho are confirmed delivery and operations platforms.
The app-building activity on Days 4 and 7 will run on the GIofAI No-Code App Builder, a module of the GIofAI LMS rather than a third-party product. That module is in development and remains outside this approval until it has been assessed against Section 2 and released by the Child Safety Officer. See Section 3.3.
Purpose of this register
This register is the operational list of software that a child may use, or that may be used on a child's behalf, in a GIofAI program. It is also published so families can see what a child may be asked to open, who controls the account, and what data may leave the device.
No informal exceptions
A tool may only be used with children after it has been assessed and added to this register. A tool that is pending approval is not treated as approved.
How a tool is approved
Every tool is assessed against the same seven questions before it is added and again before each intake.
- Age terms. What do the provider's terms say about minimum age and parental consent? Age limits are treated as contractual requirements.
- Account model. Can the tool run without a child creating an account? If a child needs a login, can GIofAI issue and control it?
- Data handling. What information leaves the device, where is it stored, and is it used to train the provider's models?
- Moderation. What content controls exist, and can GIofAI configure them?
- Commercial behaviour. Does the tool advertise, upsell or push a child towards a paid tier during a session?
- Educational value. Does the tool have a clear learning purpose, rather than being used as a novelty?
- Exit. Can GIofAI export a child's work and delete relevant data when the program ends?
Approval threshold
A tool that fails any of the first five checks is not used with children, regardless of its educational value.
Approved tools and platforms
Applies to the Future AI Innovators Program, 4 to 15 January 2027.
3.1 Junior band, ages 8 to 12
| Tool | Use and timing | Account model | Data handling |
|---|---|---|---|
| Google Teachable Machine | Teach it rock, paper, scissors from the laptop camera, then deliberately trick it. Day 2. | No account needed. | Training runs in the browser. Images are not uploaded to GIofAI and are not retained after the session. |
| Scratch | Build a project that senses and reacts. Days 4 and 7. | Teacher-managed. | Project files only, under an account controlled by GIofAI. |
| ScratchJr | Equivalent activity for the 8 to 9 age group at an appropriate reading level. Days 4 and 7. | No account needed. | Nothing leaves the device. The activity runs locally. |
| Machine Learning for Kids | Connect a trained model to a Scratch project. Days 4 and 7. Not used for the 8 to 9 age group. | Teacher-managed. | Training examples typed or drawn by the child. |
| Code.org AI Lab | Guided introduction to how a model learns from examples. Days 1 and 3. | Teacher-managed. | Activity progress under an account controlled by GIofAI. |
| ONLYOFFICE Presentation Editor | Create a project one-pager and final presentation. Days 3, 9 and 10. | Installed locally on the learner’s laptop or iPad. No learner account is required for local use. GIofAI does not require learners to create an ONLYOFFICE cloud account. | Presentation and project files created by the learner. Files remain stored locally on the learner’s device unless the learner uploads the completed work to the GIofAI LMS for program delivery, feedback, assessment and portfolio purposes. |
| GIofAI platform | Prompting practice driven by a coach on a shared screen. Days 3 and 6. | Coach-driven shared screen. No child login. | Only text typed by the coach. GIofAI controls the key, system prompt, moderation and logging. |
GIofAI usage control: ONLYOFFICE Presentation Editor
Learners will use ONLYOFFICE for local document and presentation creation only. Learners are not required to create or connect an ONLYOFFICE cloud account.
Personal cloud storage, third-party integrations and optional AI integrations must not be connected during supervised activities unless they have been separately assessed and approved by GIofAI.
Completed learner work is submitted only through the GIofAI LMS.
3.2 Senior band, ages 13 to 17, including the Advanced week
| Tool | Use and timing | Account model | Data handling |
|---|---|---|---|
| GIofAI platform | Prompting, building and testing. Used every day. | GIofAI-issued login. No third-party AI account. | Only text typed by the learner. GIofAI controls the key, system prompt, moderation, logging and deletion. |
| Google Teachable Machine | Teach it rock, paper, scissors, then deliberately trick it. Day 2. | No account needed. | Training runs in the browser. |
| Spreadsheet tool | Score a model and build a confusion matrix. Day 2. | Organisation-managed. | The learner's own numbers. |
| Browser-based Python | Call a model from code. Advanced week. | Organisation-managed. | The learner's code. |
| Hosting for deployment | Publish the finished tool at a live address. Advanced, Day 5. | Organisation account. | The deployed project. Access is reviewed before it goes live. |
3.3 In development: GIofAI No-Code App Builder
Built by GIofAI, assessed before release
No third-party no-code provider will be used. The app-building activity on Days 4 and 7 runs on the GIofAI No-Code App Builder, a module of the GIofAI LMS built for this program. No new vendor, no new account and no new destination for learner data.
The module is in development. It may not be used with children until it has been assessed against Section 2 and released by the Child Safety Officer. Until then the Day 4 and Day 7 activities run on the already-approved tools listed in Sections 3.1 and 3.2.
| Tool | Use and timing | Account model | Data handling |
|---|---|---|---|
| GIofAI No-Code App Builder | Build a working AI app with a defined user and input. Days 4 and 7. | A module of the GIofAI LMS. GIofAI-issued login under the learner’s existing LMS account. No separate or third-party account. | The app the learner builds, and the inputs they give it, held in the GIofAI LMS under GIofAI’s own control, retention and deletion rules. No learner data leaves the LMS to a third-party builder. |
3.4 Delivery and operations
| Tool or service | Used for | Required controls |
|---|---|---|
| Zoom | Studio sessions and coaching groups. | Waiting room enabled. Participants admitted against enrolment records. Host controls screen sharing and breakout rooms. Private learner-to-learner chat restricted where appropriate. Session and attendance controls configured for child safety. |
| GIofAI LMS | Task cards, learning activities, progress updates, report cards and portfolio delivery. | GIofAI-managed accounts and role-based access. Access limited to authorised users. Parent-facing information provided only through approved channels. Learner information handled in accordance with GIofAI privacy and child-safety requirements. |
| Zoho, email and CRM | Enquiries, enrolment administration and parent or guardian communication. | Access limited by role. Organisation-managed accounts. Marketing opt-outs honoured. Parent or guardian used as the primary administrative contact. Child contact details are not used for private direct messaging. |
Information that must never be entered
The rule, in full
No full names. No school. No home or email address. No phone number. No family, medical or financial information. No photographs or video that identify a person. This applies to children and staff using every tool in this register.
Children are taught this rule in the first hour of Day 1 as part of the Learner AI Agreement. Coaches reinforce it throughout the program.
If a child enters information they should not, the child is not blamed. The coach clears the information and continues the session safely.
Tools GIofAI will not use
- Anything gated behind Discord or a similar general-purpose chat platform
- Voice cloning of any kind
- Companion or character chat products, including products marketed as educational
- Anything that advertises to a learner or pushes them towards a paid tier during a session
- Tools that create synthetic media of real people. GIofAI teaches detection only, and children do not create deepfakes as a demonstration
- Consumer AI subscriptions shared across a class
- Anything requiring a child to create their own account directly with an AI company
Why GIofAI uses its own AI platform
GIofAI uses its own platform rather than relying on a stack of consumer AI subscriptions for four reasons:
- Children do not need to hand their personal data directly to an AI company. GIofAI holds the service key.
- GIofAI controls the system prompt so the model can be configured for a classroom environment.
- GIofAI controls moderation, logging and deletion so it can respond to reasonable questions about what a learner entered and how the information was handled.
- The approach avoids treating consumer age limits as something that can be bypassed by simply buying a subscription.
Review and change log
This register is reviewed before every intake and whenever GIofAI proposes to add or remove a tool. A tool may be suspended immediately during a program if its terms, privacy settings, age requirements or behaviour materially change. Where this affects learners, families will be told what changed and what replacement, if any, will be used.
